Moving and storage in Montreal
Storage and moving usually go together. The lease ends on June 30 but the new apartment is not free until July 5. The house sale closes three weeks before the purchase. The renovation is two months late. You are leaving for a year abroad and keeping the furniture. In every one of those cases, the problem is not only where to put your things — it is getting them there and back without renting a van, finding a storage unit and moving everything twice yourself.
Our moving and storage service handles the whole chain. Our crew wraps and loads your belongings, takes them to our secure facility, keeps them with an inventory for as long as you need, and delivers them to your new home when you are ready. One company, one quote, one crew that knows what is in storage.
Storage for every situation
Short-term storage between two moves
The most common case. Your belongings are loaded on the day you leave, stored for a few days or weeks, and delivered to the new address on the day you move in. Because we store in the same truck-ready state — furniture wrapped, boxes stacked — delivery is quick.
Long-term storage
For months or longer: time abroad, a family member moving into care, a home being sold, downsizing into a smaller space before deciding what to keep. Long-term storage is billed by the month with no long contract.
Renovation storage
Clearing a room, a floor or a whole house for a renovation. We can move furniture out of the rooms being renovated, store it, and bring it back and place it when the work is done. For partial renovations, we can also move furniture within the home instead of taking it away.
Furniture storage
Pieces you are not ready to part with: an inherited dining set, furniture for a future home, a sofa that does not fit the new condo. Each piece is wrapped and stored on the inventory.
Transit storage for long-distance and international moves
When a long-distance truck or an ocean container is not leaving on your moving day, your goods wait in storage and are loaded when the shipment is ready.
Commercial storage
For businesses: surplus office furniture after a move or downsizing, archives and records, retail fixtures between locations, seasonal stock, and furniture for offices that are not yet ready. Palletized storage is available for goods that need to be moved by forklift.
How much storage costs
Storage is billed by the month according to the volume you store. It starts at $90 per month, and a one-bedroom apartment from $120 per month. Larger homes and business storage are quoted by the space they take. Pick-up and delivery are billed like a regular move — or included in the move when storage is part of one.
| Volume | Typical contents | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Small load | Boxes and a few pieces of furniture | from $90 |
| One-bedroom | A 3½ apartment | from $120 |
| Two to three bedrooms | A 4½–5½ apartment or small house | quoted by volume |
| House or business | A full house, office furniture, stock | quoted by volume or pallet |
How moving and storage works
- Quote. We estimate the volume and the storage period and combine them with your move on one quote.
- Pick-up. Our crew protects, wraps and loads your belongings and lists them on an inventory.
- Storage. Your goods are stored in our secure, indoor facility.
- Delivery. When you are ready, we deliver everything to your new address — or only part of it, if you prefer to take delivery in stages.
How your belongings are protected
Furniture is stored the way it is moved: wrapped in padded blankets and plastic. Boxes are stacked by weight so nothing is crushed. Everything is listed on an inventory, so you know exactly what is in storage and we know exactly what to deliver. Goods in our care are covered by our insurance; for high-value items, send us a list with declared values before storage.
What cannot go into storage
For safety and hygiene, we do not store food, plants, liquids that can leak or freeze, propane or gasoline, paint and chemicals, ammunition or anything hazardous. We also recommend keeping cash, jewellery, passports and important documents with you.
Storage versus self-storage
A self-storage unit gives you a key and a locker; you still rent a truck, move everything in yourself, and move it all out again. Our storage is handled by the crew: we do the loading, the stacking and the delivery. If you need regular access to your belongings — every week, for example — self-storage may suit you better; if you need your belongings moved, kept and brought back, ours is simpler and usually cheaper once the truck and your time are counted.
Common questions before storing
- How long can I store? As long as you need. Many customers store for a few days; others for a year or more.
- Can I get something out? Yes — tell us what you need and we will retrieve it or bring it with a scheduled delivery.
- Can storage be combined with packing? Yes. Our packing services can pack everything before it goes into storage, which makes delivery and unpacking faster later.
Storage is available for moves anywhere in Greater Montreal, and as transit storage for long-distance and international moves.
How much storage space do I need?
| What you store | Approximate space |
|---|---|
| A few pieces of furniture and 20 boxes | 100–150 cu ft |
| Studio or 1½ | 200–300 cu ft |
| 1 bedroom or 3½ | 350–500 cu ft |
| 2–3 bedrooms or 4½–5½ | 700–1,100 cu ft |
| House, 4+ bedrooms | 1,200–1,800 cu ft or more |
These are typical ranges; the real figure depends on the furniture more than on the number of rooms. For scale, a small moving box is about 1.5 cubic feet, a queen mattress with its box spring about 60, and a three-seat sofa about 50. We estimate the volume from your inventory and bill only the space you use.
Preparing belongings for storage
A few steps make stored belongings come out in the condition they went in:
- Clean and dry everything. Appliances, outdoor furniture and anything that has been in a basement should be clean and completely dry before storage.
- Defrost and air out fridges and freezers. Leave the doors ajar in storage — we prop them open.
- Pack boxes full and sealed. Full boxes stack without collapsing over months.
- Leave out food and liquids. They attract pests and can leak.
- Label clearly. If you think you may need something before the final delivery, mark it — we can place it where it is easy to retrieve.
- Photograph valuable items and give us a list with declared values.
Storage during a renovation
Renovations run late more often than moves do. If your renovation schedule is uncertain, storage lets you empty the rooms being worked on and bring everything back when the work is really finished — not when the contractor hoped it would be. We can move everything out, or only the rooms being renovated, and deliver in parts: the bedrooms as soon as they are ready, the living room when the floors are done.
Storage for seniors and estates
When a parent moves into a retirement residence or long-term care, or a family home is being settled, not every decision can be made on moving day. Storage gives the family time to decide what each person keeps, what is sold and what is donated, without paying rent on an empty house. When the decisions are made, we deliver each piece to the right address.
Business storage
Businesses use our storage for surplus office furniture after a downsizing, archives that must be kept but not on site, retail fixtures between leases, seasonal stock and equipment. Commercial storage is billed by volume or by pallet, and goods can be retrieved or delivered on request.
Delivery day from storage
When you are ready, tell us the delivery date a few days in advance. We load your belongings from storage in the order that makes sense for the new home — usually beds and kitchen first — deliver, unload, reassemble furniture and place everything in the right rooms, exactly as on a regular move. If you want only part of your storage delivered, we deliver what you choose and keep the rest on the inventory.
Storage and insurance
Goods stored with us are covered by our insurance while they are in our care. Coverage for high-value items depends on the declared value, so give us a list with realistic values before storage begins. Some home insurance policies also cover belongings in storage; check yours — it may complement ours.
Storage for students and people between cities
Students leaving Montreal for the summer, professionals on a contract abroad and people between two cities often need to keep a room’s worth of belongings for a few months. A small load — a bed, a desk, a few boxes — costs little to store, and we pick it up and deliver it with our own crew, so there is no van to rent and no storage locker to fill yourself. When you return, tell us the new address and the date.
Storage around July 1
In Quebec, the most common reason for storage is the gap between two leases around July 1: the old lease ends on June 30, but the new apartment is not free until a few days later, or the landlord is still repainting. Short-term storage turns two stressful half-moves into one planned move: we load everything on your last day, keep it wrapped for the gap, and deliver on your first day in the new home. Because the week around July 1 is the busiest of the year, book storage together with the move as early as you can.
