Parking and access on the North Shore

Most North Shore homes have a driveway wide enough for our trucks, so street permits are rarely needed. Each municipality — Terrebonne, Blainville, Saint-Eustache, Repentigny and the others — sets its own rules for occupying the street and for winter parking. In new developments, some streets are still under construction or have narrow turning circles; we check access for your address before moving day.

The buildings

What we run into on the North Shore

Access decides the crew size and the hours. These are the three we see most often here.

01

New subdivisions

Houses and townhouses built in the last twenty years in Terrebonne, Mascouche, Mirabel and Blainville — easy access, lots of volume, often a first family home.

02

Established suburbs

Bungalows and split-levels in Rosemère, Sainte-Thérèse, Boisbriand, Deux-Montagnes and Repentigny, with basements and garages.

03

Waterfront and rural properties

Homes along the Rivière des Mille Îles and the Lac des Deux Montagnes, and larger lots in Oka, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac and Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, sometimes with long driveways.

North Shore moving, from Oka to Saint-Sulpice

The North Shore of Montreal — the Rive-Nord — runs along the Rivière des Mille Îles and the Lac des Deux Montagnes, from Oka and Saint-Joseph-du-Lac in the west to Repentigny and Saint-Sulpice in the east. It is where many Montreal families move when they need a house and a yard, and it is part of our regular service area at the same hourly rate as the island.

We move houses, townhouses, condos and apartments in every North Shore community, and we move people between the North Shore, Laval and Montreal every week.

Communities we serve

Terrebonne, Lachenaie, La Plaine and Mascouche

The Les Moulins region is one of the fastest-growing parts of Greater Montreal. Terrebonne combines the heritage streets of Vieux-Terrebonne, established neighbourhoods and large new developments in Lachenaie and La Plaine. Mascouche is largely family homes and newer subdivisions. Most moves here are houses and townhouses with driveways — four movers, a 34-foot truck and a clear plan for the basement and garage.

Blainville, Boisbriand, Rosemère, Sainte-Thérèse, Lorraine and Bois-des-Filion

The Thérèse-De Blainville region along Highways 15 and 640 has established suburbs in Rosemère, Sainte-Thérèse and Lorraine, and newer neighbourhoods in Blainville and Boisbriand. Lorraine and Rosemère have many larger homes on wooded lots; Sainte-Thérèse has an older town centre with apartment buildings and a college.

Saint-Eustache, Deux-Montagnes, Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Pointe-Calumet, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac and Oka

West along the Lac des Deux Montagnes, these communities mix older lakeside homes, family neighbourhoods and orchards and farmland toward Saint-Joseph-du-Lac and Oka. Some waterfront properties have narrow access roads or long driveways; tell us about them during the estimate.

Mirabel and Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines

Mirabel is a large municipality with several residential sectors and a lot of new construction, as well as rural properties. Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines is largely houses on bigger lots. Moves here are house moves with good access but longer drives.

Repentigny, Le Gardeur, Charlemagne, L’Assomption and Saint-Sulpice

East along Highway 40, the L’Assomption region includes Repentigny and its Le Gardeur sector, Charlemagne, the town of L’Assomption and Saint-Sulpice on the river. Repentigny and Charlemagne mix houses, townhouses and low-rise apartment buildings; L’Assomption and Saint-Sulpice are mostly houses on larger lots. From the east end of Montreal the drive is short, and the Charlemagne bridges decide the route.

North Shore homes and what they mean for a move

North Shore moves are usually house moves: more volume, fewer stairs and easier parking than on the island. That changes how we plan:

  • Volume over access. A four-bedroom North Shore house with a finished basement and a double garage can hold far more than a Montreal apartment of the same number of rooms. A walkthrough — in person or by video — makes the estimate accurate.
  • New construction. In new developments, streets, sidewalks and driveways are sometimes unfinished, and some houses are not yet landscaped. We check access so the truck does not end up on soft ground.
  • Outdoor equipment. Sheds, trailers, patio sets, pool equipment, lawn mowers and snow blowers are common. Fuel must be drained and propane tanks left behind.
  • Longer drives. The crew’s drive is billed as travel time; the hourly clock starts at your door, so distance does not change the hourly price.

Getting to the North Shore

Most North Shore moves cross Laval. From Montreal, Highways 15, 13 and 19 each lead north across the Rivière des Prairies and the Rivière des Mille Îles; Highway 25 serves Terrebonne and Mascouche, and Highway 40 serves Repentigny. Highway 640 connects the North Shore east to west. We plan the route for the addresses and the time of day — an early start on a weekday avoids most of the congestion on the 15.

In summer, the seasonal ferry between Oka and Hudson is a pleasant crossing for cars, but not for a loaded moving truck; for moves between the North Shore and Vaudreuil-Soulanges we drive around by road.

What a North Shore move costs

North Shore homes are mostly houses with driveways, so the usual crew is three movers and the 34-foot truck, at $180 an hour, or four movers at $220 for a larger house with a finished basement; a condo or townhouse in Terrebonne or Boisbriand is usually two movers at $120, or three with the 22-foot truck at $160. Terrebonne, Blainville and Mirabel are farther from our base than the island or Laval, so travel time is not the standard one hour: it is set in your estimate according to your address, at the same hourly rate. The minimum is 2 hours of work. There is no out-of-town surcharge, stair fee, weekend premium or fuel surcharge.

Moving between Montreal, Laval and the North Shore

The most common North Shore move starts in Montreal or Laval: a family leaving a Villeray plex for a house in Terrebonne, a couple moving from Chomedey to Blainville, a retiree leaving a Rosemère house for a condo in Laval. These are local moves at the same hourly rate. On the Montreal side, borough parking permits and walk-up staircases apply; see our Montreal page.

Moving further north

Beyond the North Shore, the Laurentians begin: Saint-Jérôme, Sainte-Sophie, Saint-Sauveur and Mont-Tremblant. Moves there are priced as one fixed amount based on your inventory and the distance; see moving within Quebec.

Preparing for your North Shore move

  1. Walk through the basement, garage and shed before your estimate and list the large items.
  2. Check your new street if it is in a new development: is it paved, and can a large truck turn around?
  3. Drain fuel from lawn and snow equipment, and set aside propane tanks.
  4. Book early for summer. Many families move between June and August, before the school year.
  5. Consider packing help for the kitchen and fragile items; our packing services can do it the day before.

Moving into a new-build home

A large share of North Shore moves end in a brand-new house or townhouse in Terrebonne, Mascouche, Mirabel or Blainville. New builds bring their own questions. The street may still be unpaved or partly blocked by construction; the driveway may not be finished; the lawn may be fresh sod that a truck should not cross. Inside, floors are new and easily scratched, and the final walkthrough with the builder may not be complete. We check access before the day, protect new floors and stairs throughout, and bring furniture straight to the right rooms so nothing is dragged across new hardwood.

Selling a house and buying another on the North Shore

When one house is sold and another bought, the closing dates rarely line up perfectly. If you must leave before the new house is ready, we can load on the day you leave, keep your belongings in storage, and deliver when you get the keys — or split the move, delivering the essentials first and the rest later. Tell us both closing dates as early as you can so we can plan the trucks and crews around them.

Families, seniors and first-time buyers

The North Shore sees every kind of household move: young families buying a first house after years in a Montreal apartment, growing families trading a townhouse for a bigger home, and retirees leaving a large house for a condo or residence closer to family. Each needs a different plan. First-time buyers often have less furniture than space; families have volume and children’s schedules to work around; seniors often need help deciding what fits and a calm, unhurried pace. We ask about all of this when we quote.

Part of the same service area

The North Shore is part of our local service area together with Laval, Montreal and both shores. A move from any of them is billed at the same hourly rate from the moment the crew arrives.

Moving within the North Shore

Not every North Shore move comes from the island. Many customers move within the region — from a townhouse in Sainte-Thérèse to a house in Blainville, from Repentigny to Terrebonne, from Saint-Eustache to Mirabel. These are short local moves at the same hourly rate, and even a full house is often finished in a single day.

What North Shore customers book most

The typical North Shore job is a full house move with four movers, often combined with packing for the kitchen and fragile rooms and storage when closing dates do not match. Gym equipment, pool tables and pianos are frequent additions, planned as specialty items. For the largest homes in Rosemère, Lorraine and along the lake, customers choose our luxury and estate service.

Winter moves on the North Shore

North Shore winters bring heavy snow and long driveways to clear. Before a winter move, clear the driveway and a path to the door, salt the stairs and set aside space for the snowbank the plough will leave. We protect floors from snow and salt and allow extra driving time on Highways 15, 640 and 25 when the weather turns.
