Five ways to pay less
Move mid-month, mid-week
The first and last days of the month and Saturdays book out first. A Tuesday on the 15th gets you a choice of crews and a morning slot.
Pack before we arrive
Packed, closed and labelled boxes are the biggest single time saver on an hourly move.
Book the parking and the elevator
The borough parking permit is requested by you, ahead of the day — a truck at the door instead of down the block can save an hour on its own.
Move less
Sell or give away what you will not use. On a long-distance move you pay for volume, so it matters even more.
Share the trailer
On long distance, a shared trailer costs roughly 30% less if you can accept a delivery window of a few days.
How to compare moving quotes in Montreal
The lowest hourly rate is often not the cheapest move. Ask every company the same five questions.
- How is travel time billed? Ask for it as a separate line with a fixed number of hours. Ours is one hour in total on the island, in Laval and on the South Shore.
- What is the minimum? A low hourly rate with a long minimum can cost more on a small move than a higher rate with a short one.
- Which fees are extra? Fuel, stairs, weekends, blankets and shrink wrap are all common surcharges. Get the list in writing.
- Who actually shows up? Ask whether it is the company’s own crew or a subcontractor booked after you pay the deposit. With us, it is always our own crew.
- Is it licensed and insured? Ask for the Quebec transport permit number and a certificate of insurance — and check them. Ours are here.
Moving price questions
Local moves are billed hourly: $120 an hour for two movers with a truck, $180 for three, $220 for four, plus 1 hour of travel time at the same rate. A one-bedroom apartment usually comes to $600–$960 in total.
When the crew arrives at your door. The drive from our yard and back is billed separately as travel time at the same hourly rate — one hour (30 minutes each way) on the island of Montreal, in Laval and on the South Shore — and shown as its own line on your estimate. The clock stops when the last item is placed at the new address.
Yes: 2 hours of work on site, plus travel time, both at the same hourly rate.
No. There is no stair fee, no weekend or holiday premium and no fuel surcharge. Stairs take longer, and that time is billed at the same hourly rate.
Because the variables — volume and distance — can be measured before loading. You get one number in writing; if the highway is slow, that is our cost, not yours.
